Batu Gajah Adventure - 13th to 15th feb 2008

Venue : Batu Gajah, Perak, Malaysia
Group : Patrick, Richard, Ah Onn & Myself
Catch : Freshwater fishes; 1 Haruan, 1 Carp

Day One - 13th Feb 0730 ~ 1930
The day started early at 0530 when Patrick and myself drove down to Chemor/Jelapang Toll to meet up with Richard. As usual Richard was late and by the time we got into his car to meet up his friend Ah Onn, we were half an hour late. We quickly shift our gears into Ah Onn's 4WD and finally drove to our 1st spot of the trip which was only accessible courtesy of Ah Onn. We were told that we will be fishing for haruan at a duck farm belong to Ah Onn's friend. When we reached the place, we were amused at the sight of the ducks queing to be squeezed into the small plastic transportation cages about to be transported to Singapore. All of us were using the famous red head and white body lure to attract the haruans, Ah Onn being a very experience fisherman was the 1st to get a hookup, but while retrieving lost the fish at the bank. We got bites throughout the morning but couldn't get the hook to set, the haruans was damn smart fishes. Finally, before the morning ends, Richard pulled up a decent 1 kg plus size haruan, we were finally able to take some pictures!

Good spot

Richard with his prized haruan!
After lunch, we went to our 2nd spot for more fishing as the morning catches was quite disappointing. This time we were brought to a open spot, the pond was absolute beautiful. But the weather was not! The sun was at its full blast, we were scorched from head to toe hiding beside Richard's car shadow. Richard started using earthworms as baits for some bottom fishing, the earthworms size were really pathetic....the hook diameter is bigger than the body! While I started mixing the fish food mixture I brought my tackle shop and cast away using the "Bomb" rig. Under the hot sun, I was trying to settled in the car to prepare more bomb jig, this was when my 5 ft rod bend and line kept peeling away! Managed to bring the fish to shore and we were glad to land our target fish, the precious carp! As in previous peacock bass trip, this proves to be the one and only carp the rest of the afternoon. Richard did got a few fishes from those miserable earthworms, all were release back to the pond.

The prized carp.

Day Two - 14th Feb 1300 ~ 1800
Due to our lack of sleep the previous night, we decided to skip the morning session. We began our afternoon session at a pond which Ah Onn had caught many species. Again we used both earthworms and fish mixture as baits. The site at least have a over hanging tree providing some shade, we set up and cast away eagerly. The whole afternoon passed without a single tug on our line, this place seems dead. No hint of any fishes around at all, we were greatly disappointed and call it a day to allow Richard to celebrate valentine day with his girl friend.

Beneath this pond.........nothing!

No signs of life
Day 3 - 15th Feb 1530 ~ 1830
After trying our luck at those wild ponds for the past 2 days, we did some recce at a local paypond. We saw quite a number of people already fishing away, so decided to lift our ultra low morale a bit by paying for our fishes! To our great dismay, we left empty handed....we would have buried ourself into a hole if there is one on the spot.
